The people in Guatemala are so loving. The group I was with spent a day distributing and fixing people to wheelchairs. Most of the recipients had been waiting months or years to receive a chair and hardly any of them spoke english. It was such a humbling experience to have a sweet stranger hug and kiss you out of gratitude and happiness. I cried so many tears that day, it was truly a beautiful experience. We stayed in Amatitlan and then each day would travel to different villages. One group would build houses and another would go on home visits set up by the local social worker. I spent my time on home visits and I was just thankful I could love on the kiddos a little bit. They were the sweetest part of my year.
